The Montemuro or Doors Montain is the eighth highest elevation of Portugal, with 1382 meters of altitude. It is located in the municipalities of Arouca, Cinfães, Resende, Castro Daire and Lamego (Viseu District) between the regions of Douro Litoral and Beira Alta.
The average altitude is 838 meters and is comprised between the Douro River at North and the Paiva river at south. The highest point of the mountain is called Talegre or Talefe.
The mountain is populated until about 1100 meters of altitude, the villages are scattered throughout the mountains, but almost always near water courses, as Bestança river that divides the North-South direction.
